In preparation for the September 12 DVD release, starwars.com has some interesting highlights of the year 1977, and a compilation of vintage radio ads used to promote the release of Star Wars.

Those are the goofiest ads I've ever heard. And what's the deal with the guy turning into a robot at the end?

Those ads are goofy. People were a lot less media savy in those days. And those must have played in big markets, like L.A. or N.Y. I don't remember hearing them.
