I suppose it could have been worse. It could have been a pack of these guys:
Then the headline would have been "Russian squirrels with huge testicles attack, disembowel, then have their way with the corpse of a large dog after it barked at them."

Let's take the nightmare a further step, by imagining a pack of these (you'll have to imagine the huge testicles) in the place of the black squirrels:
