Open the pod bay doors please, Hal

The Astronomy Picture of the Day reminded me (which they also mention) of that horrific scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey in which the HAL-9000 computer severs the lifeline connecting Frank Poole to the U.S.S. Discovery. Fortunately, the suit was empty. Here's the explanation from the site: "Dubbed Suitsat-1, the unneeded Russian Orlan spacesuit filled mostly with old clothes was fitted with a faint radio transmitter and released to orbit the Earth."
