Houston City Hall @ W5RAN

W5RAN featured my picture of the 1939 Art Deco Houston City Hall for a while today. But on the Internet, is there a "today," I mean, really, or for that matter, a tomorrow?? Perhaps it depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.

Plaza Theater, Wharton

W5RAN featured my little homage to Texas (Wharton) boy Horton Foote on their front page last night. I just so happened to be in Wharton the night the local theater troupe was wrapping up its performance run of Foote's Academy Award winning screenplay to Harper Lee's one and only novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Being on the Wharton main square that cold, February evening (though the story is set in the fictitious Alabama town of Maycomb), I could easily imagine Scout, Jem and Dill running out of their hiding place in order to go and protect Atticus from the lynch mob.

Head in the clouds

W5RAN featured my picture of the water tower in Henderson yesterday for a few hours on their front page. It is one of the first pictures I took as I renewed my interest in photography about five years ago, using a point and click camera (as opposed to a SLR). That day in Henderson, the clouds were really cooperating, so it was almost impossible to take a bad shot.

W5RAn

W5RAn is featuring my photography, at least for three hours. It's always interesting (and educational) to see one's work through another's eyes. In other words, which of my pictures are any good? I often wonder.

W5RAn chose my shot of the 1935, Art Deco Heights Theater in Houston of all my pictures as the one to feature. Perusing their photography archive, I had in fact wondered where I fit in to their aesthetic and tastes, and if someone at W5RAn had not made some mistake in their selection of me. My first submission is my shot of the Henry Beissner House. We'll see if they run that one.
