Ghosts in Bartlett

Bartlett, Texas (population: 1,675), is 5 miles N of Granger, 16 miles N of Taylor (an upcoming "small town" post), and 48 miles NE of Austin. I wouldn't have been surprised if I'd seen tumbleweeds blowing across the main street.

See a
slideshow.

After walking through a couple of back alleys, I finally found that for which I had come:

The fact they are flappers would suggest this dates from the 1920s. It is a work of art. If the building it is hand-painted on should ever be torn down, it would be worth it to salvage that section of the wall.

An ad for this Alamo Hotel in nearby Granger?

  1. Good pics. I'd like to go back there sometime. They actually had a DQ there some years ago that went out of business. Have never heard of this happening.

  2. Thanks, charles. Yes, isn't it a state law that every small Texas town has a DQ??

  3. Yes, in fact I always thought the town I grew up in wasn't a complete "town" without a DQ. They finally got one- after I had left.
