Sinatra's
Strangers In The Night (subtitled "Sinatra Sings for Moderns") album was recorded in 1966 and was built around the
title track. Sinatra's disdain for the treacly tune is well known, and he recorded it only reluctantly.
Despite his dislike for it, "Strangers in the Night" was a huge success for the aging singer, going to #1 on the pop singles chart, and earning him a Grammy for the Album of the Year and Record of the Year, as well as Best Male Vocal Performance, all for the title song.
This is his performance of it from the 1982
Concert for the Americas. Watch to see him comically curse to his conductor,
Vincent Falcone, in reaction to the enthusiastic audience's reaction to the opening notes.
