Here's to a more perfect Union

I got goosebumps and teared up several times during President-Elect Obama's moving and powerful victory speech, and I am hopeful for the future! Additionally, I look forward to his first State of the Union speech:

Yes we can!!

Mildly offensive pictures are from my post about the film Idiocracy.

Well you are kinder and gentler than I. I couldn't bring myself to watch Obama's speech. He just spouts words, words and more words with no prior deeds or actions to back them up (unless voting 'present' counts). A McCain presidency would have been bleak, but the future under Obama seems much bleaker to me.

I'm a sucker for the "vision thing" I guess. And it was hard not to get caught up in the euphoria of the event. But you point out the dismal reality of this election season - I really ended up not wanting to vote for either of them. At least with Obama, there's the illusion of change.

I am proud of both the candidates, and of our country.

Senator McCain's speech was moving and gracious. I was glad to see him revealed, again, as a patriot and servant of the country.

President-elect Obama's speech was a great moment in our history. No one, least of all our new president, underestimates the task we now undertake. Two wars, our economy in disarray, the middle class on the ropes and our national prestige in tatters -- there's a lot of work to be done.

But I thank God that I'm alive to witness this fulfillment of Dr. King's dream.

And while the problems look daunting, I say with our new president:

YES WE CAN!

leigh,

It does make one feel good to be American to see this occur. I also like the idea (which I read in some article somewhere) that it's "cool" to be American again. Maybe this will be Obama's greatest contribution. We'd lost so much of our reputation due to the idiots at Abu Ghraib, not to mention the reasons for invading Iraq.
