The Clone Wars

Lucasfilm is definitely not involved with the animated Tales of the New Republic. Quite to the contrary, Lucas appears to be somewhat putting the kabosh on it, perhaps to keep people from confusing it with the upcoming 3rd season of Star Wars: Clone Wars. Clone Wars debuts in 2008, and will concern events between Episode II and Episode III:

From the Wikipedia entry:

The third and last season of Star Wars: Clone Wars gives the audience a look at Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker's adventures in the Outer-Rim Terrortories as mentioned in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Anakin is knighted into a Jedi Knight and Coruscant comes under attack by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, as a diversion for General Grevious to sneak in and capture Chancellor Palpatine.

3D, Yoda is.

It's easy to see why Lucasfilm would want to squelch interest in Tales of the New Republic. For one thing, with the animators of Clone Wars transforming it it into a 3D, CGI-style for the 3rd season, its look is similar to that of Tales of the New Republic. Here is the teaser trailer:

As usual, I'm confused. I have a Clone Wars DVD where they go to a mountain with crystals for lightsabers and the mountain is destroyed. The animation gave the characters really sharp, pointy faces, etc. I wasn't impressed at all and only watched it once. Was that Season 1? What is Season 2 and is it CGI? I really liked the Clone Wars XBOX game as well.

No, you are correct, pine blogger. The first two seasons were drawn in a more anime-style. If you ever saw any of Samurai Jack (while it was on), it was done by the same animators.

That's why it is odd (coincidental) about this Tales of the New Republic thing also being CGI.

I just watched the animated Clone Wars series twice, the second last night with a group of SF fans. We MST3K'd the heck out of it, and noted lots of scenes ganked from various movies.

It'll be interesting to see the next iteration of Clone Wars- but I liked the anime-style series. It was very well done.

Oh, and I found your excellent blog while hunting for pictures of Shaak-Ti on Google.

sunfell, I really enjoyed the first two seasons of Clone Wars. I kept thinking as I watched them how Lucas should have done some of the things in the cartoons in the actual prequels. I can't wait to see the third season.

Thanks for calling my blog "excellent"!
